Character Development
One of the
greatest
joys of writing is
meeting great new characters. We may have an
idea of what a character
should look like and act like, but it’s not
until we’ve exercised that
character in a number of situations that we
truly begin to understand
what makes him tick.
Perhaps more importantly, the best characters
are not invented; they
are discovered. Like meeting a new friend,
getting to know a character
takes time. Since taking your character out to
lunch or on a date may
warrant stares or even an unplanned vacation,
this section of our Tips
and Techniques deals with ways to become
better acquainted with a
character in the privacy of your own home.
Just remember: characters are people too.

"The
assistance provided by Rhonda was
instrumental in taking me from the
beginning phase of writing to a
structured, goal-oriented
stage. I'm thrilled."
